Citizens for the Revitalization and Urban Success of Holyoke

My wife and I recently discovered this location completly by accident and noticed a sign posted on the large bar blocking the road up to the park / tower that there was going to be a cleanup on April 25th.  I am not sure who posted it, but I will certainly be there with garbage bags in hand, and maybe even a small broom for the glass, which is certainly plentiful up by the tower.

Idealy it would be great to remove much of the grafiti, but I think getting people to the spot is our first step in being able to turn this around.  Once people see the current state of the park in contrast with it's previous grandieur they will see the potential.  I was blown away, and literally brought to tears by the current state.

Please join us on the 25th from 8:30 on and bring those who may not know what once was open and available for all in Holyoke.  It's truly a beautiful place, and just needs some TLC.

I've posted some pictures of the current state here: http://synthetic-x.com/scotttower.html
Nothing special, just needed to post them somewhere since the FB page doesn't allow posting pictures.

I had to block the FB page because of immature kids posting things.... not possitive things...
My goal is to try to not only clean the tower but actually renovate the grounds and open the tower to the public again one day. I was working with a ity councilor but they are busy and now have to find other ways. Thanks for your interest
Can see that based on the comments :(
Would be great to bring the whole park back around again - thank you!
I've got a few recent pictures of the tower on my blog http://letsgoholyoke.blogspot.com/ from a couple weeks ago. I'm glad to hear that someone is planning a cleanup, although I don't think I can make it that day. Merely by chance while going through some old photos with my mom this morning, we found a high school picture of my grandmother and her friends sitting on the wall around the bottom of the tower (probably late 1930's to early 1940's); it was so clean, I don't think in my life I've ever seen it without graffiti.
Hi
I checked yesterday - Friday - and the sign is gone. The powers that be are not enthusiastic about unsanctioned efforts to clean up Scott Tower and the surrounding area. We are going to go tomorrow for a few hrs and hopefully meet a few others. We will of course have to walk from the gate.
See you there
Stan
I spoke with Todd Megee and there will be a clean up on May 15th with the support of the parks and recs dept and the DPW. I will post as an event!
I took a walk up to the tower yesterday. Uploaded a ton of photos to flickr, and posted some on my blog.
