FloDesign is awarded 8.3 million in U.S. funding.

Wilbraham- (October 26, 2009) The United States Department of Energy granted 8.3 million to FloDesign Wind Turbine Corp. The company is the developer of a compact wind turbine. Located in Wilbraham, the wind turbine company was one of thirty-seven projects selected from over 3,500 throughout the nation, with six of them being based in Massachusetts. The Department of Energy advanced Research Projects Agency presented a total of 151 million to the thirty-seven projects. Flo-Design was given the third highest amount of funding.

The company is interested in installing the prototype wind turbine in Western Massachusetts. The 150 kilowatt prototype project is considering the ridge line of Mount Tom as a possible location.

SOLAR ENERGY
On October 22, 2009, Voting 310 in favor of and 106 against, the House authorized 2.18 billion between fiscal 2011-2015 for Department of Energy programs to develop solar-energy technologies. The bill (HR 3585) establishes a long-term partnership among the federal government, the private sector and universities to develop and market solar technologies, in the same way that federal funds and policies have been used to nurture the United States semi-conductor industry in recent decades.

A yes vote was to pass the bill.

Voting yes: Olver, Neal, McGovern, Frank, Tsongas, Tierney, Markey, Capuano, Lynch, Delahunt.

Voting no: none

Van Jones, the founder of greenforall is now adviser to Obama's closest adviser on green issues (I think that is right)... so Holyoke should look at federal funding for green jobs...

We now have a way of linking environmental activism with the employment needs of the inner cities. Check out the website: www.greenforall.org. I work with high school dropouts in our YouthBuild Holyoke program at Nueva Esperanza. These youth need jobs and they are learning construction skills along with getting their GEDs. We have a huge stock of buildings that need to be retrofitted in order to become energy efficient. Can we do both???? YES WE CAN!

The next Green Activity Holyoke Meeting is scheduled for this Friday, February 13th at 9:00 AM at Dean Tech. The school is only open for a ½ day, which means they will only be serving a continental breakfast.

Please let me know as soon as possible and again feel free to forward this to whomever should be invited.
