2011 Asbestos Abatement Service Estimates

I'm posting a spreadsheet of Asbestos abatement service estimates that I collected earlier this year. I chose to go with Baystate Contractors which came in less than the more widely known Abide. Baystate also had the best prepared contract among the companies contacted.

Each company offers a choice of how much asbestos you want removed. In our case, we had asbestos removed from a 120 year old cast iron, steam boiler, and 110 linear feet of asbestos wrapped around basement pipes. I decided not to have the company re-insulate the existing piping which is an additional fee.

The spreadsheet also lists estimates for the cost of a new gas steam boiler, digital thermostat, forty gallon, gas, hot water heater, and aluminum chimney insert. No estimates are given for plumbing services due to wide swing of plumbing company charges for same services.

If you have any questions about the spreadsheet, please feel to write me with questions.

Hey Rory, Don Gleason is the name of the guy that did mine. He is out of Springfield I think, and he is in the phone book. I think he did a great job. If I remember correctly, it did take him a couple days to get back to me. Good luck!

Siding or Roofing Company Wanted?

Can anyone recommend a siding or roofing company to help me with repairing the drip edge on the side of our house that has a birds nest burrowed in between.

MASONRY 101 workshop, June 4, 8AM-12PM --

Anyone interested in volunteering your brick home/basement to be included in the "brief tours of other brick home basements" portion of the workshop. The thought is to have 2-3 home basements that we can visit as a group so we can learn about different brick issues and ask questions of MIchael the mason-guy. It'll probably be about a 15 minute visit in each home. Our home can be one of the sites. Let us know -- thanks.

Hi All -- I just thought to clarify that this workshop is not a commercial venture -- the registration fee is solely to be able to cover the costs/time of the person teaching the workshop and if there are any extra funds they will be put towards future workshop costs. I'll let the group know details of how much, if any, extra money is raised. As of now, we hope to be able to have enough people sign up for the workshop to be able to cover payment for the mason's time/materials.

Hi all -- if you're planning on attending the Masonry 101 workshop, can you RSVP on the crush events listing page -- it'll help with keeping track and communicating relevant & last-minute info  -- thanks :)
