What is the talent/skill that you can bring to c.r.u.s.h.?
My many years of service to the city of holyoke through community organizing and volunteering with many a organizations. I have worked with the girls inc H.Y.P.E program, helped find the HHS Gsa, worked with the peer health advisory board, Peer to peer health education network, Holyoke Unites, and now as a Americorps Vista(Volunteer in Service to america). I also feel that I bring a different voice due to the fact that Ive been involve din alot of the behind the scene planning of many events and have planned my own events such as the national Lgbt Health week at the Holyoke Health center, and Founded the Holyoke unites political change team and was team leader while it was still running. I have also made connections with people all around the city and am a good networker, public speaker, and most of all a person who understand the struggle of being raised in the low income areas of the city because I was, someone who understands how latino students are treated in the schools because I experienced it first hand and finally someone who knows how difficult it is to have your voice heard because mine has not but it is time for that to change.
What is your favorite thing about Holyoke?
My favorite thing about Holyoke is everything from the history to where it is at today. I also love the fact that it has so much potential to not only reach the point of its former glory when it was an industrial city but to exceed this standard for the new generation.
What do you think are some of Holyoke's greatest attributes?
The diversity, the orgs, the buildings,
What do you think are some of Holyoke's worst attributes?
the ignorance and closed mindedness and the idea that if holyoke cant be industrial, it will fail . Also, the fact that its difficult for new faces to get involved.
What are the top issues that Holyoke needs to focus on?
Restaurants, Arts & Cultural Events, Retail Downtown, Green Industry, Community Space, Communication Network, Inter-Generational Activity, Access To Politics, Better Schools
