Profile Information

What is the talent/skill that you can bring to c.r.u.s.h.?
I possess the experience, objectivity, and financial expertise to serve as Holyoke's treasurer. I have served in this office for over 20 years.
What is your favorite thing about Holyoke?
The people; having lived here my whole life, I have forged many lasting friendships and have a great love for Holyoke as a community. That sense of community, enhanced by the decency of the people I've come to know, has made Holyoke a great place to live.
What do you think are some of Holyoke's greatest attributes?
Its people, its location, its youth sports programs, its relative financial position.
What do you think are some of Holyoke's worst attributes?
I'd probably say the ubiquitous litter downtown. That being said, this is a problem we can remedy.

Experience, Commitment, Vision.

EXPERIENCE
I have proudly served as Treasurer for 21 years. During that time I have:
• Saved Holyoke taxpayers $5 million in interest payments on debt
• Helped ensure long-term stability by building reserves totaling $9.3 million
• Successfully managed Holyoke’s finances during periods of economic uncertainty

COMMITMENT
I am a life-long resident of Holyoke and am committed to our city. I have:
• Served not only as Treasurer but as a member of community organizations such as the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, Holyoke Youth Baseball, and the Boys and Girls Club of Holyoke
• Worked tirelessly to spare Holyoke form the bankruptcies and other nightmares that have hit other cities in this tough economic time

VISION
I have a plan for moving Holyoke’s finances forward. I plan to:
• Ensure that Holyoke has the resources available to meet its obligations to the citizens and city employees who make this such a great city
• Strive for new efficiencies in the office of the Treasurer in order to realize savings similar to those achieved by producing payroll in house rather than outsourcing that work
• Wisely invest the city's assets to stimulate economic growth while remaining vigilant of changes in the markets

Elections Demand Disclosure

At a recent public debate my opponent, Jon Lumbra, acknowledged an incident in Bennington, Vermont, whereby public funds under his control were determined missing. My opponent refused to explain the incident, claiming the existence and protections of a confidentiality agreement. The Treasurer in the city of Holyoke manages an excess of $300 million dollars per year. My entire public record as Treasurer for the past 21 years and my personal life has been completely open to the public.

It defies… Continue

The Case for my Candidacy

Dear Voter,

Recently audits of the treasurer’s office identified the need to remedy several specified administrative functions within the office. While the areas referenced focus on a minor portion of my duties and responsibilities as Treasurer, the audits criticism has generated an enormous amount of negative press. Let me be clear in my response: I accept and acknowledge the criticism and I have worked hard to correct and resolve all the issues identified.

This is only part of the story, how… Continue

The Debate

Below is a link to my debate with my opponent, Jon Lumbra. If you could not attend, please take a look. Whomever you end up voting for, it is always good to understand the significant differences between the candidates before election day. Our debate is "Forum 2."
