HOLYOKE- Local artist, Damian Cote, was selected to receive an Artist Fellowship in Drawing from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The prestigious award is a $7,500 unrestricted grant to promote the development of the artist’s talents. This year, this highly competitive grant was awarded to only five of 317 applicants to the Drawing category throughout the state of Massachusetts. Hi all,
I mentioned this attached article on gentrification at this afternoon's Steering Committee meeting. A couple of key points I want to flag is 1) that language and terms such as "revitalization", "urban renewal", or "urban renaissance" are often used to neutralize the negative effects of gentrification on existing center-city neighborhoods, and 2) that "first generation gentrifiers" often have more tolerant views of ethnically/racially diverse and mixed-income…
