HOLYOKE- Local artist, Damian Cote, was selected to receive an Artist Fellowship in Drawing from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The prestigious award is a $7,500 unrestricted grant to promote the development of the artist’s talents. This year, this highly competitive grant was awarded to only five of 317 applicants to the Drawing category throughout the state of Massachusetts. A listing of the award recipients from all categories can be found on-line at: http://www.massculturalcouncil.org/programs/fellows_funding.asp
“I am surprised and honored to be recognized for my work among so many talented artists,” said Cote.
Mr. Cote holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Printmaking from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). Since graduating in 2010, Cote has held adjunct teaching positions with both RISD and the Montserrat College of Art located in Beverly, MA. His work is part of the permanent collection in the Prints, Drawing, and Photographs department at the RISD Museum and has been selected for a number of juried print shows including the International Print Center New York (2008) and the Boston Biennial (2011).
Cote is also an active participant in the bourgeoning local arts scene in Holyoke. His art has been featured in local shows including “Paperworks” (May 2011) and “Book=Object” (October 2011) both hosted by Paper City Studios at 80 Race St. Additionally, Cote is scheduled for a gallery showing at the University of Massachusetts’s Hampden Gallery in February 2013.
